Roulette Game Cheats and Scams

rouletteOne of the busiest and most chaotic places you can be in a land based casino is of course stood around a Roulette table, as soon as players are instructed that they are allowed to start placing their bets on the betting layout and up until the point the Croupiers announces that no more bets are permitted there can be a lot of jostling between players all trying to get their respective bets placed onto the game.

Obviously when any casino game is operated by a human being as is the case with Roulette, then that game can be exploitable by players, more so if the Croupier and other staff are involved in any type of cheat or fraud on that game.

In this section of our series of articles that cover Casino Game Cheats and Fraudsters we will be taking a look at the many ways people have managed to cheat or scam the game of Roulette over the last few years.

Past Posting

One of the most common ways that players have been cheating at Roulette, probably ever since the game was invented, was by placing wagers onto the betting layout after the result of each game has been announced, this type of scam is known as past posting.

As soon as the ball has started to slow down as is spins around the Roulette wheel a Croupiers attention will of course be on the ball as he or she waits to see which well the ball lands in, and this is where that Croupier can often be distracted and players can then place a chip or chips onto the winning number or on one of the other betting positions such as red or black if they are quick enough.

You will often find that there will be a team of scammers involved in past posting, and those players will place themselves around the table in such a way that when the ball has landed in one of the ball wells they distract the Croupier and also block the Pit Bosses view of the table and even block the view of the table form the security cameras and by doing so that then gives another one of the team members the opportunity to place their chips on the winning number.

It can take years of practise to perfect this type of scam but due to the huge payout awarded on certain bets on the game of Roulette they can quickly cheat a casino out of a considerable amount of cash in a very short period of time.

Chip Swapping

Chip Swapping is an unusual scam in as much as in the way it works is unique to Roulette and cannot be done on any other game. As you will be aware if you play Roulette, then you place your cash onto the table to be exchanged for chips you will be allocated a chip colour, all other players will have their own different coloured chips will obviously allows the Croupier to identify whose chips are whose on the betting layout and means he or she can pay out winners when they have placed a winning bet.

You are also able to pick a value for your chips when exchanging your cash and this is where the Chip Swap scam comes into play! One player will buy in and request their chip values are set at the lowest possible value and will then play the game as normal. However, what they will do is to slip a number of those chips into their pocket as they are playing, and will then either play until they have lost the chips they have on the table in front of them or if they have a winning session they will ten cash out those chips and walk away from the table.

They will then meet up with another player who is in on this scam and hand over those chips they slipped into their pocket, that player will then walk up to the Roulette table and buy in, however they will buy in for a much larger amount and will request their chips are set at much higher values.

They will also request the same colour chips as the ones they were handed by the other player and will mix those chips into their stack in front of them as the Roulette game is under way this always goes unnoticed in a very busy casino.

The logic behind this scam is that they then have a set of very high valued chips which cost them the minimum amount and by placing low risk bets onto the table they can then cash out their original chips and those additional chips and walk away with a guaranteed profit.

As mentioned at very busy times in a land based casino this type of scam will often go completely unnoticed, however at quieter times the Croupier may spot there are several chips missing from one colour set of chips.

Stealing Players Roulette Chips

As most Roulette players will have all of their chips in front of them at the Roulette table and will be stretching and moving all over the table when they are placing their chips on the table, that is usually the time when a chip stealer will pounce.

As the Roulette table can be a very chaotic place when a player is distracted and too busy placing their chips it is quite easily possible for a player to discreetly grab some of that players chips without being seen, obviously the thief is aiming to steal valued chips and not the standard Roulette chips.

In you do fancy playing Roulette in a land based casino then with this scam in mind you should always keep a close eye on your chips and put any high valued standard casino chips you have won in your pocket to ensure no one snatches them from under your nose, for you never know who your fellow players are.
