New Jersey Sportsbooks Ready To Take Big Action On UFC 249

Ladies and gentlemen, let’s hear it for one of the best promoters and commissioners in the world. Dana White is doing a bang-up job with the UFC and found a way to turn a canceled event on April 18 and announced triple-hitter bouts for May 9, 13 and 16.

Most impressive about this is that NJ Sportsbooks delivered odds at a pretty rapid pace. Remember when Conor McGregor picked up a victory in just 40 seconds in his last fight? Yeah, it was done at a speed pretty similar to his victory.

A huge Saturday is in store for us all, and sportsbooks are going to be getting the action. The main event for this weekend is going to feature Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje. Both of these guys have had some magnificent success in the octagon to this point in their careers.

Ferguson (-186) has posted a 25-3 record, while Gaethje (+158) is 21-2 in his fights. This is going to be the first main-event fight we’ve ever seen that has taken place without a crowd. This is going to set the tone for the major bouts in the cards for the two following events (odds supplied by Unibet).

There are a few other figures from this fight that bettors in New Jersey will be able to bet on. The odds of a Ferguson win by TKO/KO sit at -106, while the knockout odds for Gaethje sit at +175.

The winner of this fight is likely going to be taking on Khabib Nurmagomedov in the early fall. Taking on someone of Khabib’s level is going to be the biggest challenge of their respective careers. Trying to defeat somebody that crushed McGregor is a tough task.

Lots Of Action

The sportsbooks are going to love the action that a fight like that is going to accumulate. They’ll be facing an extremely-talented fighter that’s as fresh as any. And for this current fight, Ferguson enters with 12 straight wins and is undefeated since 2012.

This is going to be a fantastic opportunity for the UFC as the first sport in America to occur with no fans present. There have been plenty of doubters to something like this being effective. And thanks to the opportunity set forth by White, they’ll have a chance to make some real positive history.

Rest Of The Card

Other notable fights taking place include Dominick Cruz taking on Henry Cejudo and Anthony Pettis squaring up with Donald Cerrone. There is so much great action taking place this weekend, and these are just a few of them.

Cruz is a former world champ who has not been in the octagon in four years. So for him, this provides a fantastic chance to make a triumphant return. You can imagine many will be wanting to wager big in his favor.

Cejudo, meanwhile, is favored with -230 odds. He is the UFC bantamweight champion right now, fighting to defend his belt. He is ranked as the UFC’s third best pound-for-pound fighter.

There is so much excitement surrounding UFC 249, and it’s all merited. Big fighters decorate the card, with upsets just waiting to happen. White did something great here, and he is owed so much credit.

The preliminaries will begin at 6 pm ET on ESPN, with the later fights available on pay-per-view. And the decision to choose Florida as the destination was not a tough one.

Florida re-classified sporting events as “essential business,” clearing the way for UFC 249 to take place there. Jacksonville is going to be the star of the weekend and likely the entirety of the period between May 9 and 16.

Get your sportsbooks ready, folks. A great weekend is ahead.
