The Sports Betting Fever In New Jersey

The launch of Legal Sports Betting in New Jersey in 2018 saw the floodgates opened and the market shoot to become one of the biggest and most lucrative markets in the entire gambling industry. Since then, punters can place bets on their favorite sports at physical casinos, on racetracks, and online via websites and mobile apps, throughout the state.

The rapid growth of the online sports betting market has given players in New Jersey a new exciting gaming experience: virtual gaming, where they can play their casino games like Blackjack, Roulette, and Poker as well as bet on their favorite sports from their own comfort. Many casinos have launched sports betting platforms in Garden State, that are offering massive bonuses to lure players and beat the stiff competition.

Casinos’ ‘Saviour’

Jeff Ifrah, the founder of iDevelopment & Economic Association(iDEA), says the legalization of sports betting has had a positive impact on the industry, serving a big boost to online casino operators. The gambling attorney said that the betting industry in the Atlantic City was struggling and that online gaming was ‘just in time to save casinos’. Atlantic City’s casinos and partners generated a revenue of over $400 million from online gaming by the end of the year 2019, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming. According to the iDEA, the tax revenues collected in the same period were at least $79 million, with the states’ annual budget at $38.7 billion.

The increase in revenue by over 60%  as compared to the $277 million generated in 2018, was sparked by the legalization of sports betting, with industry analysts suggesting that with the exemption of the market, online casino revenues would not have grown past 20%. The monthly revenues recorded by casinos in Garden State have more than doubled since June 2018, with analysts projecting of way higher revenues this year. The rapid growth is an indication that the states’ decision to legalize sports betting is paying dividends and has created a conducive gambling environment that has led to such widespread growth.
