WV online casinos joined their counterparts in NJ, PA and MI with a record-breaking month of October 2021
Figures released by the West Virginia Lottery Commission show that online casinos in the Mountain State produced $6.4 million in October 2021. This meant that West Virginia joined New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan in registering record online casino revenue for the month.
The revenue figure of $6.4 million was some $1.7 million higher than September 2021, representing a 37% rise month-on-month. And these revenues weren't just a case of WV casinos getting lucky - the overall handle also recorded a record month, with $198 million in wagers recorded for the month.
West Virginians have shown a remarkable appetite for online casino gambling since the product was launched last year, with consecutive record months for both revenue and overall handle. But similar records in October for the 3 other states which have legalized online casino (NJ, PA, MI) suggest that seasonal patterns are now playing a role, as players are more likely to stay at home rather than venturing out to land-based casinos.
The two gambling sites associated with The Greenbier resort (FanDuel and BetMGM) together recorded more than half the total WV revenue ($3.6 million). Next up was DraftKings, which accounted for $2.1 million. The Mountaineer-affiliated BetRivers won $730,000.
It is likely that November will see even greater growth in the West Virginia online casino market than October showed. The additions of WynnBet and Caesars as operators could see to that - assuming the WV market has not yet reached saturation point. The November numbers should become available early in the New Year, and here at Casinosformoney.com, we will present the data as soon as it released.
